Great interest was created recently by a Supreme Court case brought by Robert Gould and four other waterside workers,., against the Wellington Union, claiming a*; : mandamus ordering the union to recognise'; them as members, and an. injunction against *2 tlie union representing them as non-finauJ',4 cial, claiming also £5Ol damages. V.’’ The position rose out of plaintiffs ol>’ jccling to pay a union levy of £l, de-'tj scribed as a fighting fund, and otherwise. ’ Mr Justice Hosfcing beard lengthy evidence, and reserved his decision. In the course of another case heard in chambers to-day. his Honor gave a forecast of his decision, (which he will deliver on Friday) by saying that he would find that the levy was invalid, and that ho would deal fully with the consequences of that decision.
