TAXATION PROPOSALS. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SUVA, December 12. (Received Dec. 12, at 11.5 p.m.) A public meeting of citizens at Suva unanimously endorsed the action of the elected members of the Legislative Council, and requested the Governor to transmit the resolution to the Secretary of State. The Returned Soldiers’ Association unanimously added its support.—A.: and N.Z. Cable. ; [The Taxation Committee of the Fiji Legislative Council recommended fresh taxation—namely, £1 per head annually bn male residents, excluding Fijians between 15 and 60 years of, age who are British subjects or are ,of European descent, or South Pacific Inlanders; secondly, a tax of £6 on other males, to be reducible to £2 to anyone engaged in agriculture or on public works; thirdly, non-European and non-British immigrants shall pay an immigration fee of £SO before landing. The recommendations were not approved by the Secretary of State for the Colonies. The elected members unanimously decided, fid’ protest.] . ;
