VICTIMS OF MOB VIOLENCE PRISON INMATES INCREASE. VANCOUVER, December 1. Once a week, on an average, an American citizen is done to death by an American mob. More than 800 persons in the United States were victims of mob violence during the period from September, 1920, to June, 1922, according to the_ report of the Amercan Civil Liberty Union. The crimes include 85 lynchings, 51 tar and featherings, and 127 floggings. _ The remainder are forcible mob deportations. The prison population of the United States, not including chain road-gangs or inmates of religious or charitable institutions, increased from 140,186 in July, 1917, to 160,131 in July, 1922, according to the Census Bureau.
