SPECIAL COMPETITIONS, Fanners and those interested in the growing of lucerne arc reminded that the entries tor these important competitions close at the end of the month. In addition to the valuable trophies offered by the Waitaki Dairy Company and Messrs Nimmo and Blair, the Otago A. and P. Society offers £2O in cash prizes tor the best three acres ol lucerne irrigated, and for a similar area nou-irrigated. Prizes of a similar value are also offered I'or the best five acres of swede turnips and for tho best five acres of yellow or wbite-floshed turnips, and to place all farmers on an equal footing in regal’d to these competitions, the committee have divided the province into four different districts. The society has been fortunate in scouring the services of Mr R. B. Teiment, Agricultural Department, Instructor, to inspect and judge all crops entered for competition, and farmers can rely on their crops being closely inspected and decisions given on a sound, practical basis. The lucerne crops will bo inspected during tho last two weeks of January, and the turnip crops during the first two weeks in May.
