WERE HEARD, .AND THIS WONDERFUL MANIFESTATION OF THE ARTISTS POWERS INCREASED TILL THE END OF THE CONCER'Pf WHEN THE ENTHUSIASM VERGED ON THE HYSTERICAL. DAINTY HANDKERCHIEFS FLUTTERED, AND MEN WAVED THEIR HATS. DURING THE PLAYING OF THE BRAHMS SONATA THERE WAS AN ATMOSPHERE OF REVERENCE AND CALM WHICH PRECEDED THE OUTBURST/ AND STORM OF APPLAUSE WHEN SPIVAKOVSKY STRUCK THE LAST NOTE QF THE GREAT SONATA. IT WAS TRULY A VERITABLE TRIUMPH, AND ONE THAT HAS HITHERTO NEVER BEEN ACHIEVED AT THE FIRST CONCERT OF ANY VISITING ARTIST. FOLLOWING THE LAST PROGRAMME NUMBER. THE YOUTHFUL VIRTUOSO WAS BROUGHT BACK TO THE PLATFORM TIME AND AGAIN, AND EVEN AFTER ENCORES WERE GIVEN THE AUDIENCE WERE LOTH TO LEAVE THE HALL, AND MANY WAITED AT THE STAGE DOOR TO SEE SPIVAKOVSKY. DRIVE AWAY CONCERTS HAVE GONE AND CONCERTS WILL COME, BUT THAT OF LAST NIGHT WILT, BE A LIFE-LONG MEMORY FOR THOSE WHO WERE FORTUNATE TO BE PRESENT.
