The Admiralty salvagers have recovered a further £1,000,000 from the liner Laurentic, the White Star liner which was torpedoed during the war. Salvage work is being continued.—Reuter. (Received July 20, at 7.55 p.m.) The Associated Chambers of Commerce adopted a resolution asking the Government to convene an Imperial Conference at an early date on the question of continuing the Empire development scheme. Mr J. H. Thomas, at the Railwayman's Union’s request, will introduce a Bill in the House of Commons providing for pensions of 30s weekly at the age of 60, the cost to be met by equal contributions by employers and employees.—A. and N.Z.
