VALEDICTORY
MR AND MT*S D. MURRAY. A pleasant social evening was held in the North-East Valley Presbyterian Church on Monday evening lost, when Mr and Mrs D. Murrav and Miss Aimoe Murray wore entertained by tho oflico-lxwcrs and their wives and the members of the P.W.M.U. prior to their departure to take up their permanent residence in Auckland. The Rev. R. E. Evans was in the chair, and in making a presentation of a handsome walking stick to Mr Murray spoke in happy and eulogistic vein of the service which Mr Murray and his family had rendered to tho Church during the many years that they had 'been connected with it. He also spoke of tho great loss which the Church would sustain and the general re- • B-rot that they should be leaving the North. East Valley. Mrs D. S. Boath, on behalf of the P.W.M.U., presented Mrs Murray with a firm case of carvers and Miss Murray with a ladies’ solid leather suitcase, and spoke in very glowing terms of the work which Mrs and Miss Murray had done for the Church, more especially in connection with tho P.W.M.U., of which Miss Murray had been organist for several your.-;, Several other speakers, both ladies and gentlemen, took the opportunity of expressing their great appreciation of the work which Mr Murray and his family had willingly and efficiently done for the Church. It was mentioned that Mr Murray had been connected with the North-East Valley Church for 35 years, that for 15 years of that time being cleric of tho Deacons’ Court—a. position which his methodical, painstaking, and thorough way of doing things well qualified him to fill—and that he is at the present time a member of session. Reference was also made to the great interest which Mr Murray always took in the old pupils of his sdhools, to the loyalty and, affection .of the boys for him, and to.his enthusiastic support of the CVlct and Volunteer movement. Mr and Miss Murray appropriately replied to all the good things that had boon said about them, and spoke very feelingly about the loss it would he to them leaving all their good friends in the NorthEast, Valley. Musical items and refreshments added to the sociability of the evening. , : '
