THE DUNEDIN NORTH ELECTION.
TO THE EDITOH. Sir, — In your issue of to-rtny a correspondent, “M. C.,” writing from Omakau, indulges in a prophecy. He says that the result of the recent by-election is a fair indication of “what the country can expect at the next general election.” “M. C.” may be pleased, but prominent extremists are rendered particularly uneasy by the figures. I venture to submit the following figures:— wls- 1919. 1922. Number on roll ... 9,201 11,199 11,687 Alleged “Labour” vote 4,073 3.978 3,380 These show an expansion in the electorate, and. despite the kindly assistance of Mr Holland, Mr M’Combs, Mr Howard, arid Mr Sullivan, a startling -decline in the extremists' vote. A moth is fretting the garment. “Verb sap.” I am, etc., B. Dunedin, Juno 24.
