MINING.

The following progress report has been issued by Muir’s Gold Reefs, Ltd. (says the Taurangia correspondent of the Auckland Herald): —During the month ended May 31, 2540 tons of ore were crushed and . treated: for a yield of 9530 z of fine gold and 4600 z of fine silver. The driving on No. 1 level south from No. 5 rise was resumed. At 20ft south of the rise the assay value of the reef was £5 9s 3d per ton for a width of 36in, at 30ft £8 2a 6d for a width of 40m, at 40ft £5 16s 2d for a width of 54in, at SOft £3 4a 2d for a' width of 56in, at Ssft £8 IBs 6d for a width of 52in, at 60ft £7 13s 4d for a,, width of 52in, at 65ft £l4 10s 5d for a width of 48in, and at 70ft £6 3s 8d for a width of 46in. At the northern end of the mine, at a point ofi the etopes 20ft above No. 2 level, and Soft north of No. 1 rise, a strong' body of quartz was cut eastward of Muirs reef, and has been opened up for a length of 30ft. The width from wall to wall is 96in,- averaging £5 2s 4d per ton. On its southern course it appears to be diverging gradually farther away from Muir's reef. From. No. 3 level No. 2 winze has been sunk a further 73ft, making a total of 78ft. The assay values from 6ft to 78ft have been low. In the crosscut to intersect Big lode, known also as Fleming’s lode, quartz hafi been met with at 72ft. This haa been driven into for 3ft. Only one wall is showing, and values are low. The ejection of the headgear of the shaft is well forward, four legs of the framework being now in position.
