ST. KILDA BOROUGH COUNCIL

The fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council was held last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr J. W. Dove) and Councillors Telfer. Ross, Mercer, Adam. Longworth, Ritchie, Garbutt. CORRESPONDENCE. Captain Lucas, of the St. Kilda Fire Brigade. wrote drawing attention to several fire plugs which needed putting in order. —To receive the necessary attention. The secretary of the St. Kilda Municipal Band wrote consenting to council's agreement for band concerts in the borough.— Received. The Town Clerk,'Dunedin, wrote suggesting a conference with reference to the percentage the city and the borough of St. Kilda might agree to oontriubte to the maintenance of the sea road between the bridge at Anderson’s Bay and Portobello, and thus avoid the expense of a commission, which would otherwise be set up at the request of the Portobello Road Board. Die Mayor remarked that a previous commission had decided that St. Kilda should not contribute anything towards the expense of erecting a new bridge over the Anderson’s Bay inlet, as the quantity of traffic was infinitesimal. Counsel’s opinion was read, stating that St. Kilda was not likely to be called upon to contribute anything to the road. Cr Telfer moved that the City Council be informed that the borough council docs not recognise anv Habib ty in the matter. He thought more traffic carries into St. Kilda than went from St. Kilda over the road. Cr Rose seconded the motion, which was carried. From A. E. Jefferson, complaining of the dog nuisance in the borough, as evidenced by the frequent overturning of the ashtins. and suggesting a substantial increase in rhe dog fax.- Received. The District Telegraph Engineer wrote notifying that the approximate cost of connecting the Fire Brigade Station by switch telephone from 61 Grove street would In* ±.’6 10s, and there, would be a maintenance charge of £.\ per annum. —Held over for three months. FOREMAN'S REPORT. The foreman reported that two tanks were urgently needed at the corner of Richardson street and Forlmry orescent, one at the comer of lug's avenue and Forbury crescent, two at Fay View road (St. Clair end), and one in Bridgeman street. — Referred to members of the Drainage Board.
