Satubdat, June 24. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) Theft of Money and Liquor.—Doris Watson, who was before the court on Tuesday last on a charge of stealing £5 10s and two bottles of whisky from Watson’s Hotel, was brought up for sentence. —Mr'Bartholomew stated that Ensign Coombs’s (female probation officer) report recommended reformative treatment fair accused. It was, in his opinion, a case where a considerable term was required. The woman would be detained for reformative treatment for two years, and be recommended for transfer tc Point HaJswell Institution. Vagrancy; Self-destruction Intended.— George Keith Barlow was charged with being deemed to be an idle and disorderly pewon, haying insufficient lawful means of support.-— Chief-detective Bishop informed the court that accused had written a letter to a friend in Ashburton intimating his intention of suicide. The police being* notified. Detective Beer had traced accused, who admitted having written the letter.
