RETRENCHMENT
APPEAL TO SCHOOL COMMITTEES. (Peb United Pbess Association.) WELLINGTON, May 17. Spare the schools in any scheme of national economy was the burden of an appeal which teachers have made to school committees all over the dominion, and which they repeated at tljo annual conference of the New Zealand Education Institute to-day. The president of the institute" (Mr J. E. Purchase, of Christchurch) said the motion before the institute was in no way a reflection on the Government, but rather an appeal to the public to see that the schools were left alone in the movement for retrenchment. The motion was seconded by Mr D. W. Low (Palmerston North) and carried.
