FARMERS’ CONFERENCE

REMITS CARRIED. (Pw» Dnitbd Press \ Association.) WANGANUI, May 16. The provincial annual conference of the Wellington-Wairarapa Farmers’ Union opened to-day with Mr W. Morrison presiding over a large attendance of delegates. The following remits were carried: “That the conference strongly protests against the' unjust deduction of 41b weight from the hale of wool called draft, by selling to the brokers. “That the former arrangement of 14 days’ ‘prompt’ with regard to payments for wool sold, be reverted to. “That the Woolbrokers’ Association be requested to make a reduction in their charges for handling wool, and especially the charge _of a farthing a pound for receiving, weighing, and lotting. “That the Interprovinoial Conference ‘bo requested to give consideration to the matter of excessive and other charges in wool.

“That the Government be urged to bring down legislation to make stock and station firms liable for payment on the sales of live stock made through them or their agents for forward delivery. “That an Export Board should he formed to represent every branch of the farming industry.” Additional remits were carried:—“(l) Urging the 'abolition of compulsory preference to unionists; (2) objecting to the Railway Department prohibiting its servants assisting to load cream cans; (3) drawing the attention of the Railway Department to the penalty imposed on inland freezing works bv high freight of frozen meat compared with live .stock; (4) urging -the reduction of railway freights.” General complaints were made of the damage to crops by hares. It was pointed out that in some localities reafforestation was impossible owing to the damage, done to young trees, and it was said that (Tie peat was as bad as rabbits. It was, decided to take steps to have the protection of hares, removed.
