PEARSON MEMORIAL FUND

THE MOVEMENT IN DUNEDIN. The local executive of the Pearson Memorial Fund met in the Town Hall yesterday afternoon, the Mayor (Mr J. S. Douglas) presiding. Mr Douglas explained that the amount which had been allotted for collection in Dunedin was £3700. The meeting was called to consider the best means of raising the sum. It was left to Mr Douglas to see if Mr E. S. Wilson would undertake the secretarial work in. connection with the fund. The Town Clerk (Mr G. A. Lewin) was appointed treasurer. To raise the sum. it has been decided to conduct a personal canvass of th© town, and to hold a ‘‘street- day” and various forms of entertainment. Mr W. Herbert said he felt sure that local labour unions would bo glad to devote some of their funds to the purpose. This matter, together with approaching the churches, was left in the hands of the sub-committee concerned to deal with.

Mr H. Harris was asked if he thought the Rugby Union would in any way be able to contribute to the fund. Mr Harris explained that a Saturday had been set aside as “Charity Day,” when all proceeds from football matches wpuld be devoted to charity. Half of this would be given to the Pearson Memorial Fund. He estimated that about £4OO would be obtained, so that the amount devoted to the fund would be about £2OO.
