TRAMWAY’S BAND CONCERT
An entertainment of much above . the average .excellence was given on Thursday night in. His Majesty’s Theatre, in aid of the funds of the Dunedin Tramway Band. Partly owing to the excellence . of the programme, and partly to the public sympathy with the object of the • effort, the - theatre was filled,, in every part, in spite of the inclemency of the weather. The audience, atsq, was :not only ■ numerous, but' enthusiastic,' ‘as was proved by the fact- that every item on the programme was encored, while Mr J. A. R. Brown, who sang Scotch songs, was honoured with a double recall. After the band (under the conductorship of Mr F. J. Clarkson) had plaved, and played Well, the opening selection, the president (Mr E. Quartermain) briefly, addressed the audience, pointing out the difficulties under which they laboured in getting times for practice when all the players could attend, thanked the audience for braving the elejnents that night, and bespoke a continuance of the interest thus manifested in Us Welfare. Another proof of the sympathy with the effort to get and keep together a j band connected with the tramways was i furnished by th© fact that not a single performer who; had promised to take part failed to put in an appearance. The following programme was given : —March, “Newtown” (F. E. Bulch), Tramway Band; song, “Drake’s Drum," Mr Bert Rawlinson : monologue, Mr H.
