A concert in aid of Dr Barnardo’a Home was given to a full house in the Palmerston Town Hall last Wednesday evening, the programme being contributed by the following;—Overture, Palmerston Orchestra; songs—Mesdames Smith- and Wedge, Misses Hurhdell, Lake, and Teviotdale, Messrs Hayes and M’Lennan, and Master Adams; recitations —Mrs Wedge and Miss Moody: dances, Miss Kitty Murray. Mesdames Adams, Mayer, and Miss Bain acted as accompanists. The Chief Brokers for the New Zealand Glass Works, Ltd. now being formed to establish the New Zealand Glass Works, Ltd., repofft most satisfactory progress, the capital being freely subscribed. No doubt this is largely due to the drop in the English Bank rate which will enhance the value of shares in dividend-paying companies. Furthermore it is claimed that the Company null have a supply of the (inest silica sand in New Zealand, if not in the world, for glass-making purposes. The Government Analyst’s report of * February 6, 1922, shows this sand to be 98.26 pure silica. This high percentage of silica, and freedom from extraneous matter, makes this so.nd the best, in New Zealand, and probably without equal in the world, for glass-making purposes. The Capital of the proposed New Zealand Glass Works, Ltd. is £150,000 divided into 150,000 shares of £1 each.
