ITALY AND TURKEY
IMMORAL BARGAINING. SECRET PACT ALLEGED. BRITISH PRESS CRITICISM. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, May 2. (Received May 3, at 5.5 p.m.) The Pall Mall Gazette says: “Italy, following the French example of immoral, underhand bargaining, made a secret political pact with the Kemalists. The Italians do not deny that they obtained unsolicited offers and concessions, but say that Italy has given no promises in return.” The Gazette says that this is untrue, as Italy is supporting the Turkish position at Genoa, including the claim for Adrianople. /Turkey was lured into a secret pact by the fear that Prance otherwise would capture most valuable railway, mining, and irrigation concessions. The Daily Telegraph says that Britain has protested to the Italians against_ the economic agreement, which ijtaly officially admits, but the Telegraph believes that a secret political pact also exists. —A. and N.Z.
