SOUTH ISLAND SANATORIUM. THE TIMARU CONFERENCE. (From Odb Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, May 2., With regard to the tuberculosis campaign, the Hon. C. J. Parr (Minister of Health), seen to-day, amplified the statement he made yesterday with regard to the Governments. activities during last month. He said. an invitation had been sent out to • the hospital boards, of the South Island, who at present had little or no facilities for the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis, asking them to send representatives to a conference to be held at Tirharu on Wednesday, May 31, and the following day. In his letter convening the conference the Director of Health said that the Minister desired that the chairman and one other delegate from each board should attend, vested with power to act on behalf of their respective boards. In regard to proposals concerning the establishment of a saijtorium for the South Island. , The conference is necessary in order that a definite decision may be come to with a view to the establishment of a sanatorium at the earliest possible date. The site will be in Central Otago.
