General Wu-Pei-Fu’s army has reached a point on the railway between Peking and Tientsin. Other forces are marching across the country to attack Chang-Tso-lin south, of Tientsin. The fighting around Peking has diminished as the result of. General Chang’s retirement. The wounded and dead found outside the city indicate the fiercest fighting. Chang-Tso-lin’s forces turned back a train which was carrying the American •Embassy officials to Mukden. (Received May 2, at 8:10 p.m.) i The Chicago Tribune's Tokio correspondent states that the Japanese have' followed the example of the British, and are recalling the aviation instructors from the Mukden army attached to General Chang’s headquarters. Orders have been issued to the Japanese Governor at Tsingtao to exercise the strictest precautions to prevent a landing at Mukden of a force for the purpose of attacking Wu-Pei-Fu, through Shantung. ■The Japanese Government is determined to preserve the strictest neutrality, but it is reported that Sun Yat Sen is attempting to raise a 20,000,000 dollar loan at Osaka, pledging railway and mining concessions iii the south of China.—A. and N.Z.
