RETURNED SOLDIERS

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The first meeting of the new executive of the Dunedin Keturned Soldiers’ Association was held last night. Colonel M'Donald .presided over a full attendance. The secretary stated that the bank balance in the currant account, was £398. Accounts amounting to £4B were passed for payment. Four new nominations and six transfers out were approved. A letter from the League of Nations Union (Dunedin branch), suggesting that a sub-branch should be formed within the association, was referred to the secretary of the Debating Society, the executive having already accorded its support by official affirmation. V The secretary, Otago Expansion League, invited the executive to attend a meeting of the Kailway Committee of the league, at which the proposed straightening of the main north line will be discussed as a means of relieving unemployment.—lt was agreed that the sub-committee appointed to deal with the matter and as many others as cared to should attend the meeting. The president was authorised to visit Queenstown and other sub-associations to inquire into matters affecting their welfare. The following sub-committees were appointed :—Finance : President, treasurer, Messrs M*Crae and P. Anderson; Clubhouse ; President, Messrs Hill, Leeden, hhllerton, M'Nish (representing the executive), Messrs Bryant and Wood (representing general committee), Messrs R. S. Black, J. H. Walker, and J. Brown (representing hon. members); Social: Messrs Foley, E. Anderson, Hill, Callan, and Rev. Hector Maclean. The president and Messrs M’Crae and Fullerton were appointed to the District Council, and the president was nominated as the delegate to the Dominion Council. A eub-committee consisting of the three legal members—Messrs J. B. Callan, E. Anderson, and P. Anderson—was appointed to frame remits tor the Dominion Conference, covering the aboltion of the District Council, the representation of associations on the Dominion Council in the event of the District Council being maintained, and the setting up of a commission to deal with land settlement values. The remits will be considered at a special meeting of the executive this evening. It was decided to meet in future on the last Thursday of each month.
