It was decided to ©rect a , memorial in' recognition of the invaluable civic and, national services rendered by the late Hon.rGeorge' Jones, M.L.C-, • arid late proprietor of the' Oamaru Maik Hie meeting was fully representative of all sltodea of opinion. i Dr. Douglas, who - submitted the proposal to the meeting, acknowledged the courageous services in .the £aus© of political and social reform's rendered by ' the ’deceased, ' whose sincere and fearless advocacy of his , beliefs, bad aroused the admiration of i riend and opponent alike.
