ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

An accident occurred on the liner Durham last night; A heavy cargo derrick was taking the weight of a sling of cheese, when the tackle carried away, and the derrick crashed across the coamings ol No. 3 hold. Fortunately, no one was underneath, but a watersider named ■ Michael Barry, who was -at the Winch,had his hand caught between tho derrick and tho winch lever. The hand was badly crushed* and the man’s side and back were bruisedi Robert Atkins, a farmer at Lpggate, was accidentally killed through the capsize, of. a dray, causing, the uislooation of his. n.ock. He leaves a widow and five children. HASTINGS, April 29.. At tho inquest on Mary Alexandria Frame, who died suddenly yesterday, a verdict that death was .due to extensive degeneration of the heart was .returned. Christina . Shanks, a widow, aged 60 years, residing at 14 Perth avenue, was admitted to the Hospital on Friday night, suffering, from a, compound fracture erf tho left ankle. The accident was caused through a fall in her dwelling.
