TAIERI RIVER TRUST

ENGINEER’S REPORT.

The following report wfcl be submitted by the engineer to the Trust (Mr B. B. Couston) for the past month:—

The Henley squad have cleared C. drain throughout its length and also the drain from the Pump to Lodh Ascog. They have repaired the bridge on Kirk’s road that was damaged by the traction engine. The works which it is proposed to carry out next in order are the clearing of the channel between the two lakes, the clearing of B. drain and of Poplar road drain from the school to B. road. The West Taieri gang have cleared the drain from Granton to the Upper Contour, and have removed a large quantity of gravel from the Contour channel intake. The works which it is proposed to carry out next in order axe the clearing of Wylies Creek diversion, the clearing of a drain in Mr John McLeod’s property, the repair of a leak in the embankment at Mr Miller’s and the removal of ra-pu from the Contour channel. The pumping plant was worked for 46 hours during tie month, which was sufficient to drain all the land except the Loch Asoog area. The land m this locality is so low that it would be necessary to keep the pump running for throe days after all the other drains have been lowered to pumping datum. As this is a particula.r expense for a small area I ask your instructions whether it is to be incurred. The Waipori River on two occasions during the month overflowed the Henlev-Berwick road. I have completed the survey of the area between the railway and hillside from Otokia to Bull Creek and forward a plan showing all natural features and the levels of the embankment, railway and paddocks at every five chain distance. , Tlie plan gives on one shqet all the information required to design a. scheme for either shifting back the embankment alongside the river or for raising the railway so as to serve as an embankment. The levels have been redpeed to railway datum. I forward also a plan showing the classification of the River Trust area for the embankment rate.
