In a letter, received by the Clutha from Auckland, the writer says: “We arrived at Coromandel after a passage of nine days from Otago, having beat the Canterbury by five days. Charles C'lipp.—Defendant was dead in law, being imprisoned on committal for highway robbery, .and could not consequently appear, His Worship observing that ho should certainly not pronounce an exparte judgment. The plaintiff was, however, permitted to have an interview with the defendant prisoner in H.M. gaol.
