Ihe present -visit of the President of the Conference (Rev. 0. H. Laws, 8.A.) to Inmcdin is of great interest to the Methodist coramuiuty. Jn this centenary year the conference asked Mr Laws to visit aa many circuits as possible, with a view to m ! ofc,ngs of inspiration, and leading the Church to a deeper consecration and greater activity. On Saturday evening the Methodist Young Women's and Young Men’s Bible Classes mustered about; 160 strong in Trinity Schoolroom, when the president delivered in what he termed “a fireside talk” a deeply impressive appeal to thoso present to definitely and more fully consecrate themselves to Christ and the work of the Church. Taking the word “Life ’ as his topic, ho dealt with life from its lowest to its highest ideals, and all present greatly profited by the address. , The president had a very busy day yesterday. In the morning a large congregation assembled at the Central Mission in the Octagon Hall, when the address given by the Rev. C. H. Laws was baseo on the cluster of conversions recorded in the Ist chapter Gospel of St. John. Mrs George Scott rendered a solo very acceptably. Cargill Road Church was well filled,with young people and adults in the afternoon, when the president conducted the 'service, and delivered a timely and forceful address on “Home Ideals of the Methodist Church in this Centenary Year,” appealing for three things in particular—(l) a contribution of personal character to the Church; (2) a greater and more genera] fellowship among church members, and more friendliness to strangers and visitors to our churches; (3) a worthy contribution of personal service to the Church. Ho reminded the congregation of the great and noble work of those who planted and built up the Methodist Church during the past century, and urged those present to bo thoroughly loyal to their churches in this centenary year. In the evening President, Laws occupied his old pulpit in Trinity Church, where he was pastor for five years, and received a sincere welcome from his many friends. 'lhe church was crowded, and the large congregation listened with deep interest and great profit to an impressive address on “Christian Diseipleship,” taking as his text 7th Chapter Matthew, verse 'l4, concluding with an earnest appeal to all to give of their best to Christ and His Church. The Rev. Mr l ows will remain in Dunedin until Wednesday, meeting the Methodist ministers in fellowship to-day, and on Tuesday conducts two public meetings, and ho? a conference with the local Centenary Committee of the Methodist Church. There can be no doubt whatever that the visit of one of their wiaisterß. so highly esteemed as President Laws is, will be of immense spiritual blessing and benefit to all the districts and churches he visits.
