SCIENCE GATHERING
TO BE HELD AT WELLINGTON. (Peb United Press Association.) WELLINGTON. April 27. In January, 1923, Wellington is to be the gathering place of scientific men from all parts of Australasia. The Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science, the ‘ objects of which are apparent in its title, will hold in this city its fifteenth meeting on that occasion. Meetings have been held in all the principal towns of file commonwealfli and New Zealand at intervals o? two or three years since 1888. No meetings, however, were held between 1915 and 1920. The objects of the association are officially given iis follows; "to give a stronger impulse and more systematic direction to scientific inquiry; to promote intercourse among those-who cultivate science in different pails of the- commonwealth of Australia and the dominion of New Zealand and in other countries; to obtain more general attention for the objects of science and the removal- of disadvantages of a public kind which may impede progress. ' The meeting will take the form of public lectures and scientific discussions, besides excursions and various social functions, • At a meeting of the Wellington committcq (Professor Kirk in the chair), a number of sub-committees were appointed. It was decided to ask the heads of all local public institutions to co-operate, and bv . this means a large Reception Committee will be formed. Scientific societies in other centres will also be asked to assist in making the gathering a success.
