Thorby, headmaster, Milbum, vice G. M. Luke. Attendance Officer’s! Report.—This stated tihat, though the attendance showed a slight increase, there was still a good deal of absence through illness, chiefly in the infant department. Alterations and Improvements.—The architect recommended the construction of a shelter for .the infant room doors at Kensington, at a cost of £135, explaining that it was more than a shelter, as in suitable weather the headmaster would accommodate a class these. It was resolved to do the work and apply to the Government for a grant.I—o 1 —0 n: the recommendation of the architect, it was agreed to carry 1 out improvements at the Otanomomo School, provided the committee would , find the labour.—Applications for repairs to teacher’s residence at Waipahi and improvements to drainage at school and residence at Southbridgev were referred to the architect for report. . In the case of the headmaster’s .application for improvements at the residence at Mornington, the architect was ampowered to expend up to £BO. Householders’ Resolutions.—lt was resolved to forward to the ■ department motions carried at meetings pf householders it Evansdale, Oamarr North, and Mussel>urgh. Fire, at Kuriwao.—The report of the comnittee appointed to inquire into the cir•umstances attending the fire by' which j he school residence at 'Kuriwao was detroyed reported that there was every eason to believe the outbreak was accilental.
Election of Committeemen.—The following' appointments were made .to complete the complement of the committees named:—Ardtrour—A. Davidson, S. Downley, A Webb; Clinton— Wm. Lester, Chas. J. Barlow; Greenfield—• James Smith; Kokonga, J. Creighton: Seacliff, J. Taylot; Waitati —John Baird. ; Eli Brighton: Waikouaiti. Chas. Flannery: Hawea Flat, P. Muir; Green Island, Walter Brown. Selection of Teachers.—Mr Livingstone referred to the matter of forwarding names for appointments of teachers to schools, and, the chairman remarked that if they were e going to depart from the present custom they would have to knock in the head the necessity for appointing the highest graded . teacher Personally he thought that would be' a' good thing. Mr Livingstone thought that if they had committees taking an interest in the managemen of schools, they should be given some voice in the selection of the teacher. Ho moved that a recommendation to that effect be forwarded to the Education De-. partment. The motion was carried.
