PARISH OF ST. KILDA

The annual meeting of the parishioners of Holy Cross Church, St. Kilda, was held last evening, when the vicar (the Rev. A. Wingfield) presided over a full attendance. The hon. treasurer (Mr H. W. S. Hellyer) moved the adoption of the annual report. Ho referred to the satisfactory state of the finances of the pariah. The only debt that the parish had was £250 on the church, and he saw no reason to hurry to pay that off. He paid a tribute to the energy and enthusiasm of the church workers. Mr Jacobsen seconded the motion, and advocated the immediate purchase of a pipe organ.. The vicar thanked the parishioners as a whole, and especially the various church organisations. He also laid stress on the harmony that existed throughout the parish. He complimented the vestry on its management of the parish finances. He made reference to the work done by Mr F. Mulligan as lav reader, superintendent of the Sunday school, and choirmaster, who has left to live in Southland. The motion was carried without further discussion. The annual report contained the following clauses:—“The vicarage property, which cost over £IOOO, is* now paid for. The total receipts from all sources was £1029 13s. and the expenditure, including the payments on the_ vicarage account, was £IOOO 19s 6d. leaving a small credit balance. Several successful social gatherings were held during the year, which were the means of bringing the members of the congregation together and encouraging the social intercourse that should exist in a parish. In the near future it will be necessary to have a really good organ, and it is for the parishioners to say whether the efforts of next year should he devoted to that object or to create a nucleus of a fund' for a permanent Sunday school, which sooner or later mart be built. Throughout the past year special appeals for the Melanesian Missions, the Boys’. Orphanage, and other obiects have been well responded to.” The election of office-bearers resulted ns follows;—Vicar’s churchwarden, Mr D. Harris Hastings; people’s warden and hon. treasurer, Mr H. W. S. Hellyer: vestry— Major Parker. H. W. Holmes. W. H. Dunning. W. Pnllar, H. Clark, M. Prie«t, M. Scott. R. Salter, C. Oaten, and P. J. Priest
