ONE BIG UNION
FIFTY THOUSAND MEMBERS. THE ALLIANCE OF LABOUR. STOREMEN AFFILIATE. (Fbom Ou» Own Coebebpondent.l WELLINGTON, April 27. There is to bo another important accession to tin? ranks of the Alliance of Labour, says to-night's Post. A ballot recently taken by the Federated Storemen of New Zealand, a national organisation, on the question of linking up with the Alliance has now been counted and it was announced'today that the storemen had decided by a' two to one majority to apply for affiliation.' The storemen’s Federation has 5 a membership of about 2000 and has not been in existence very long As it is organised on a national basis, the basis required by the Alliance, it seems a foregone conclusion that the Alliance will accept affiliation. That being so the stoicmen will throw in their lot with the seamen, the watersiders, the miners, the freezing workers, the metal workers, the driver’s, and the tramway men and so becomes part of an organisation ior which it is claimed that the membership exceeds 50,000 The claim that the Alliance is the largast Labour organisation New Zealand has ever seen seems to be justified. There are other organisations which seem anxious to affiliate, ns soon a« the basis of their organisation satisfies the needs of fho constitution of the Alliance of Labour.
