“MOTHERING SUNDAY.”
The observance of “Mothering Sunday’’ was duly carried out at Mosgiel and Green Island. At. the former place, on the Saturday evening, the play, tableaux, and procession, which took place at Green Island on Wednesday, was repeated in the Coronation Hall, where there was assembled a large audience, part of which journeyed from Dunedin. All taking part, especially the children, delivered their lines very clearly and impersonated the characters verv well. The “homo” scene was very realistic, and the procession quite an impressive spectacle. The procession inarched to the hymn, “The Church's One Foundation—Jesus Christ, Our Lord.” A short address was delivered by the vicar, and after the benediction a verse of (lie National Anthem was sung. In the afternoon a small sale of work and produce was held in the hall, and the sales from the various stalls and tea-room were satisfactory to the promoters. At St. Luke’s, Mosgiel. and St. Mark's. Green Island, special services were held on Sunday, the vicar officiating at each place. He preached an appropriate sermon on the day, emphasising duty I' l home, the sanctity of marriage, loyalty to Motherland, and devotion In Mother Church. The children were given a piece of cake and cards and other gifts for their mothers. Special hymns for the occasion were sung.
