The Government has announced a compulsory loan proposal in consequence of the Reparations Note. Ministerial circles regard the whole of the taxation programme as useless.—A. and N.Z. Cable. ARMY OF OCCUPATION. AMERICA’S CLAIM. WASHINGTON, March 25. (Received March 26, at 11.5 p.m.) Mr Hughes has sent a supplementary Note to the five Allies saying that the position of the United States regarding the payment of occupation costs is not affected by the proposed postponement until this year of the debit for the value of the Saar mines against France’s bill for her army of occupation. This is explained merely as a question of book-keeping. However, the United States reserves its rights in the matter. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
