FIRE IN WAIHI MINE
confixed to old workings. (Pee United Press Association.) WAIHI, March 23. A fire occurred in the underground working of the Waihi mine No. 7 level at eight o’clock last night. The company’s up-to-date underground fire-fighting equipment was immediately brought into use. The ore-pro-ducing, points in the mine were not affected, as the area of the fire was confined to the old workings; but it is certain that a number of men will be thrown out of work pending the subjugation of the outbreak and the clearance of smoke from the fire Brea.
