MISS ELLA SHIELDS
When Vesta. Tilley, the famous English actress, now Lady de Ereco, recently retired from the footlights, her mantle as the world s greatest male impersonator fell, it is said, upon the shoulders of Miss Ella Shields, who is under contract to Mr Harry Musgrove. Arrangements have now been completed for a New Zealand tour of the clever comedienne, and Mr W. A. Low reached Dundin on Monday to pave the way for the opening of the season. According to the critics. Miss Ella Shields, whose good taste is only equalled by her versatility, has won high favour in the big Australian cities, and the audiences cannot see too much of her. Miss Shields does not exactly impersonate men in one of her highly successful turns, but rather selects a series of types picturing men and poking fun ct them in the one act. In adding the Lifeguardsman to her series, Miss Shields extends her range as well as her characters, which, with her, are always something more than a change of costume. Her success in the dominion tour should be assured. Miss has a strong company of supporting vaudeville artists with her, who have all recently scored big successes in Sydney and Melbourne. The box plan is now open at The Bristol Piano Company. The season commences at His Majesty's Theatre next Wednesday, and is limited to four nights.
