RISE AND SHINE. The Rise and Shine dredge wanked • narrow cut last week in order to reach deeper ground ae eocn ae possible. Prospects improved a little, some very tight wash having oome in at different parts of the cut .-,A. number of large wash, atones were met with. A bottom of soft red and white clay, with a little sandstone, was got at an average depth of about 33ft. The gold was of a coarser nature than usual. MOUNT LYELL MINK, ' The following is the progress reporfiofths Mount Lyell Mining and Railway flomf HJ (Ltd.), for the fortnight ended on March f}:— Mount Lyell Mine.—Breaking pyrites W*s in progress until the cessation of the underground mining at the close of the week. No. 9 level, No. 7 rise to 7ft, through mixed schist and pyrites and discontinued- No. 10 level, No. 1 rise to 37ft through pyrites and discontinued. North Mount Lyell mine:' 7000 ft level, No. 15 rise to 42ft in quartzite mineralised with chalcopyrite. 1050 ft level, south drive, to 52ft in schist and quajrfsits carrying chalcopyrite; No. 2 rise to Bft through schisty quartzite. Reduction, works': One furnace was in blast during fho fortnight and 2940 tons of blister copper :Jlad been consigned to the refinery for the current year. Concentrator: Picking plant operated 39i hours and put through 1250 tons North Lyell ore; 290 tons sorted are sent to the furnaces and 1005 tons reject ore And-fines to the mill. The mill operated 282 hours and treated 3380 tons ore, reducing 417: tons jig concentrates and 523 tons flotation concentrates.
