THE WEATHER
Yesterday the ■weather was again very unpleasant, with a very, cold and strong south-west wind prevailing up _ till noon. Slight showers fell up to-' midday, but shortly afterwards the wind changed and blew steadily from the north-east. This was accompanied by a heavy, drifting rain, the showers being intermittent during the latter part of the afternoon. Shortly after 7 p.m. a steady downpour set in, lasting well into the night. With a failing barometer the prospects of an early improve-, ment are slight. PALMERSTON, March 20. Unsettled weather continues, though milder than formerly. About midday to-day a drizzling rain set in, becoming heavier as the day advanced, and looks like continuing.
