THE SANDERS CUP
Desert Gold and Murihiku were sailed in the Upper Harbour yesterday. Murihiku shaped very well. Heather is in Mr J. Macpherson’s boat shed. The final touches have been put on the defender, and she will be in first-class trim for the race on Saturday. The times for holding the yacht races have not yet been decided. This matter and other important details will be settled by the, conference of representatives from each of the competing provinces. It is understood that Messrs Edgar C. Hazlett and Bert Neea will represent the Otago Motor Boat and Yacht Association at the conference, The conference will be held when the members of the crew of Iron Duke reach Dunedin. They are expected in the second express to-morrow.night. Mr J. A. ’Macdonald.-.manages’ of the Iron Duke crew, arrived by the first express from , the north yesterday. Mr Macdonald is well' known to many of the boating men in Otago Harbour, The Iron Duke and her crew will arrive by the first express to-day, the Wellington challenger travelling in a special waggon attached to the train. Linnet had a try-out in the lower harbour yesterday and acquitted herself satisfactorily. Her speediness was very favourably commented on by a number of spectators.
YACHT AND MOTOR BOAT CLUB. A meeting of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association was held in Mr A. C. Hanlon’s- rooms last evening, Mr A. C. Hanlon presiding. A letter was received from the Otago Harbour Board in connection with the fourteen-footer races, agreeing to give the us© of the pilot boat Taiaroa, the harbour master to act as marshal to keep the courses clear. The offer of the Dominion Sportsmen's Association to present medals to the winning crow was accepted with thanks. The Boat Committee reported that Desert Gold (Auckland), Murihiku (Southland), and Linnet (Canterbury) were housed in the special sheds at tho Otago Yacht Club site, and that Heather and Iron Duke would take up their quarters to-day. The Entertainment and Finance Committees reported that everything was in a forward state, and. that arrangements had been made for a reception for., the visiting yachtsmen. Arrangements had also been made with the Ferry Company To run its steamem on the days of the races. , The aotnal dote ß and-hours of the contest will be settled definitely at a conference of the provinces’ delegates to be held on Thursday, provided the Auckland delegates arrive' in tune. • Tito ' measuring of the boats will take place on Friday,
