CITY STATUES.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — I notice that it is proposed, on account of tramway requirements, that the statues to Queen Victoria and Dr Stuart be removed to other sites. The sites proposed for their re-ereotion seem lo me to require further consideration. 1 suggest that instead of placing Dr Stuart’s memorial on the ornamental plot between the Early Settlors’ Museum and the Railway Station, it be removed to the grounds of Knox Church, facing the junction of George, Frederick, London, and Pitt streets. This suggestion has been made before, and I think -the Session of the church would favourably consider the matter. Then the Queen Victoria memorial could be transferred to the site on which it is proposed to place the statue to Dr Stuart. Would it be possible at the same time to havs the bust of Mr James Macandrow in the Queen’s Gardens turned round to the south, so that the face could be seen by all pastersbv? As it is at present the memorial might just as well be non-existent. I trust that, other citizens'will show their regard for our picturesque city by expressing their views on this subject through your paper. —T am, etc., R. S. Watso\.
