There was a noticeable arrival last night, by the Lord Worsley, from Sydney, in the person of Mr William Henry Garrett, charged with being on© of the men implicated in the West Taieri sticking-up case. Garrett is a man of prodigious strength. On board the Airdale, out of sheer bravado. he twice broke his handcuffs and leg irons. He came clown in charge of Mr Inspector Headley and Detective Clarke. WESLEYAN CHURCH MEETING. A numerously attended meeting of the members of the Wesleyan Church was held in the Court House yesterday evening. The meeting having been opened by devotional exorcises, the Rev. Mr Buller, who presided, stated that he had felt it his duty to call the present meeting, in compliance with the request of several members of the Church, ... He would advise the meeting to erect a building committee and endeavour to collect funds. Until this was done, a gentleman had very kindly offered him- a very large tent, which would be_ put up free of expense as a place of worship. Mr Cook then moved the following resolution, which was seconded by Mr Chambers, ■ and unanimously agreed to: —That the following gentlemen be appointed a building committee, -with power to add to their number, viz.—Messrs Harnett. Tenant, Wilson, Cook, Chambers, Ricark, Fisher, and Morrison, senior. . . .
THE GOLDFIELDS. (From our own correspondent.) Tuapeka, January'3o, 1862. The Superintendent Major Richardson, in company with the Hon. Mr Reader Wood and Major Ryan, of the 70th, are making a tour on the Goldfields. He received a * deputation consisting of 11 * * whose object was to ascertain the views. of the Government concerning the assistance to be given to prospecting parties on the Tuapeka goldfield. . . . * Part of the copy forwarded by our correspondent was accidentally destroyed. We have supplied the deficiency as well as we could.
