DUNEDIN WOOL SALE

BIDDING VERY SPIRITED. ■i MOST SATISFACTORY PRICES. The second wool sale of the series was held in the Art Gallery Hall yesterday, when the Association of Brokers offered 19.497 jbalee to a large attendance of buyers, including quite a number of now faces. The sale was certainly one of the most satisfactory ever hold in Dunedin. Bidding was Tory ' spirited throughout, and the buying power was sufficient to have lifted more wool The Gale did not conclude until 11 p.m. Buyers from the United States and , Canada were strong factors in the market, and their competition for not only the beet, quality halfbreds and crossbreds, but for many of the medium crossbreds, was particularly keen. France was a strong competitor for medium to good halfbreds, and also for crossbred pieces. Bradford, aa usual, lifted the greater portion of the medium to super crossbreds. The local mills were the final bidders on !■ ell merinos, also on a fairly large proportion of the good to super quality halfbreds end for all fine pieces showing quality. Over 90 per cent, of the offering was sold ■ under the hammer, and negotiations after the sale will probably dear the lot. The selection submitted was above the average, and the offering comprised many of the best clips from Otago, North Otago, and Southland. The majority of the finer wools from Central and other parts of the Otago could , not be included in tins sale owing to late arrival, as the result of the New Zealand Government Wool Committee’s limitation of the offerings, which necessitated an early closure of the catalogues. It is expected that unless there is a limitation in February fully 20,000 bales will bo offered, and probably a farther 12,000 to 15,000 in March. . All super halfbred and crossbred wools being the classes most suited to the reqnire- . ■ merits of TJ.S.A. and Canada, these showed an appreciable advance over ell previous auctions held in the dominion this season. It was the opinion of several of the leading .buyers that these wools were from Id to lid per lb higher than the prices realised at the recent Christchurch sale. , Medium and low sorts, both halfbreds and crossbreds, were fully on a par with Christchurch. The various offerings were;— Bales.
