Dr W. B. Fergusonj Kurow, has been appointed resident medipal officer at Arrowtown. Captain H. Gordon, deputy harbour master at Dunedin, has gone on holiday leave. He is being relieved by Mr F. Dow. Mr Georg© Livingstone has declined appointment as the Education’s Board’s representative on the Waitaki High School Board owing to the pressure of his engagements* in connection with other public bodies. Mr J. O’Shea, Wellington city solicitor, who has been visiting the city on holiday, left for tho north this morning. Professor i'. A. Hunter, chairman of tho Victoria College Professorial Board, has resigned from tho College Council, as his tenure of the former office which carries with it a seat on the council, is expiring. The Right Rev. Bishop H. W. Cleary, Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, has (states the Post’s London correspondent) benefited considerably from the treatment ho had .been undergoing in a London nursing home. He is, naturally, still far from well, but he expects to be able to leave for Ireland shortly, where, he contemplates spending some months. Captain H. F. Peakes, R.A.N., flagcaptain on H.M.A.S. Melbourne, was promoted to captain in July, 1921. He served for most of the war in command of H.M.S. gsyohe, and as senior naval officer at Rangoon, in which capacity h© rendered notable service. Crptain Feakes was appointed to H.M.A.S. Melbourne as flag-captain and chief staff officer in November, 1921. It was largely due to his able handling of . his ship that those on board the schooner Helen B. Sterling were rescued. _ Mr H. B. Douslin, late Director of Public Works for Southern Rhodesia, is visiting
Wellington and Rotorua. Mr Boudin i* an “old boy” of Nelson College.^ Mr Charles M’Keegan. mechanical draft*, man to the Public Works Department, Wellington; Mr Herbert L. Welch, accountant to the Lands and Survey Department, Blenheim ; and Mr William H. Short ' chief clerk to the Stamps Department, Welling, ton, have retired from the Government service on superannuation. . ’ ' ' At the premises .of Mr R. . Bruoe, ia. totuart street, on Saturday, Mies. Sincook was presented with a teaset by her shopmates as a token of esteem and good wishes, on the occasion of her approaching marriage. Mr R. Brace made the presentation, and Miss Sincook left amidst many congratulations.
