PICNICS ON SATURDAY

Several picnics were held on Saturday, and although the weather was not very promising at the outset, the day turned out fine. The annual outing Jor the Dunedin orphanages arranged by the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Club was held in the afternoon at Broad Bay. The Peninsula Ferry Company generously carried the , children to the bay by the Waireka, Many embarked at Dunedin, and the remainder at Johnston’s jetty. On reaching the bay tho children and their guardians were entertained hy Mesdaraes A. C. Hanlon, R. Hudson, C. Speight, / Begg. A. Miller, L. Gooch. S. Geddes. L. O, Story, J. E, Galbraith. E. C. Nees, M. Nyhon, and Dr. Emily Nees. Toys and sweets were distributed amongst the children, and everything possible was done to make the outing a pleasant one. Tlie employees of Speight’s brewery hold their annual nicnic at Pqrtobello. -The ferry steamer Waireka carried a large party to the bay in the morning. . The employees of Messrs Stevenson and Cook’s Engineering Company (Ltd.) journeyed by train to Evansdale, where the annual outing was held.
