(Received Jan. 29, at 11.15 p.m.) The Observer states that the Government is prepared to grant Egypt full independence in principle. An official announcement will be made on Monday, defining the' exact, length to which the Government is prepared to go. The matter will be thrashed out when Parliament meets' in February. The Egypt Nationalists’ demands, continues the’Observer, have been extended since the Irish settlement, and they now want more than the degree of independence outlined, in the Milner report. The British Government recognises that no Egyptian Government cati. take, office unless its programme is based on complete independence. It is neither thfe practice nor the inclination of the British people to meet such demands ‘ with grape-shot. The Egyptians -will gasp : with pleasure when they read announcement, but the principle that Britain must be *the Eaount foreign Power dealing with t will bo made explicit; also that ih communications to India, the Far East, and Australasia must be safeguarded.—A. and N-Z- Cable; THE BOYCOTT MOVEMENT.
