SOME REPRINT NOVELS.
PROM JOHN LONG AND JARROLDS. Although some time has , elapsed since the death of Nat Gould, “the author whose sales , now exceed .21 million, copies,” new hooks frpm his pen appear with amusing rapidity,",.'Explain the mystery how one will, the .fact remains. The two latest issues of this popular, writer’s stories are entitled respectively “Th 6 Blue Ribbon” and “A Long Shot,” apd both bear the legend, “Never Before Published!” Strictly sneaking, therefore, they do not come under the head of “reprints,” but one. Nat Gould story is so like another that the quibble nosd not be noticed. The millions of worshippers at the shrine of Nat Gould know what . they want in the shape of racing stories, and they get exactly what _ they desire. These'"two'Nat Goulds are likely, therefore, to have as great popularity as all that have gone before. ' Another of Mr John Long’s “mascots” is Theodore G. Roberts, whose ‘ stories of the Canadian wilds are so deservedly popular. “The Exiled Lover” is one of Mr Roberts’s best, and in its reprint form should have a wide circulation. Messrs Jarrolds take advantage of kinema popularity to advance ■' the sale of their reprints'.' They work bn the theory that to enjoy a film founded oh a novel, it is essential first of all to read the book, when the picture can be properly appreciated. Miss Helen Mather’s' well-known novel, “Cherry Ripe,” has recently been filmed, and accordingly a handy reprint of the story is issued. The some. applies to Mr Geo. Goodobild’s Alaska romance, “Tiger’s Cub,” the story on which a well-known “Fox” film is founded; Again the adage is “Read the story before you see the picture.” All these novels are of handy pocket size, and they aro- published both by Mr John Long and Messrs Jarrolds at 2a net each.
