IMPERIAL AIR SERVICE
PATE IN THE BALANCE. AWAITING INDIA’S DECISION, Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright, LONDON, January 25. The fate of the Imperial Air Service is in the balance. India’s eagerly-awaited verdict will decide the issue. The Air Ministry states that it has not been advised of India’s decision, and it is believed that it has not yet been taken. It is understood that cables have passed between Mr W. M. Hughes and India in that connection, and, it is hoped, with good effect. The Air Ministry states that New Zealand and South Africa have turned down the scheme, owing to the state of their finances. It was known that Mr Massey was not enthusiastic at the time of the Imperial Conference; but it was believed that he was subsequently converted, and his decision is a great disappointment in local air circles, though New Zealand’s inclusion is not essential to the inauguration of the service. South Africa is only a branch line, and if India joins the Australian service will start.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
