The annual meeting of the Otago Daily Times Mutual Provident Society was held in the Otago Daily Times library last evening, when, Mr F. Mitchell presided over a bare quorum of members. The annual report showed that there was a marked absence ‘of sickness in tho office during the year —a state of affairs common to a number of the local friendly societies this year. There were two deaths of members during the year, and a third, who had retired at the end of T 920, passed away nine months later. Members stood in silence for a moment in memory of their late comrades. Tho ordinary subscriptions for the year amounted to £96 11s 6d, and tho interest from investments 7s lOd, making a total of £l6B I9s 4d. On the expenditure side sick pay and mortality allowances absorbed £54 7s bd, interest at 53 per cent, on the amount standing to the credit of members £4O 10s 9d, and general expenses £2l 17s—a total of £ll6 16s 3d. The profit on tho year’s working was £52 4s Id, allowing a bonus of 13s for each 26s paid to be credited to members. Tho amount of endowment subscriptions was £7l 13s 6d. The company’s donation of £4O allowed a division of lls 4d to be added to members’ credit. Of tho 46s paid into the society by members in subscriptions, 44s 4d was added lo members' credit. The number of members in the society is now 75, with a sixm of £1275 10s lid to their credit. The following offica-beareirs were elected for 1922: —President, Mr V. R. S. Perry; vice-president, Mr 1). Gilbert; treasurer, Mr William Dow; secretary, Mr A. Wilson; committee—Messrs A. Chisman, J. Ritchie, A. Lye, A. Lownc, and F. Mitchell; trustees, Messrs H. Harris and W. H. Adams; auditors, Messrs J. Gray and H, P. Harvey.
