(Received Jan. 25, at 8.30 p.m.) There is a. crisis in the mercantile marine, The shipowners' have intimated to all ratings that if no settlement on the wages question is reached within a day or two they will have no alternative but to make their own arrangements when engaging men, and they must insist on the proposed . reduction of £2 a month in the case of sailors and firemen.—A. and N.Z.
