CANTERBURY MARKETS. (P«n United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 17, The burst of rainy and squally weather has stopped harvesting operations, which were becoming general. The fear prevailed that Monday’s rain' and winds would cause a good deal of laying of heavy crops, and in several districts this was proved to be the case, particularly of oat crops. So far, however, it has not caused much damage to wheat. The rain has generally improved the yield prospects, particularly in South Canterbury and North Otago, where they are sufficiently late to receive full benefit of £ho generous fall. It is estimated ‘that in the North Otago and Wftixnato districts the yield will be increased by bushels per acre. , Crops which will benefit largely by the rain are peas and potatoes, as about 75 per cent, of the latter are late. This year there should be a very much improved potato yield. Prices at country stations are; £5 for the February-Mareh delivery, and £4 for the April-Mia-y delivery. FAT LAMB SALES.
