HARBOUR EXCURSION
PLEASANT MOONLIGHT TRIP. Tho moonlight harbour excursion in aid of the funds of thevSt. Vincent de Paul Orphanage, which took place on Saturday evening, was very largely patronised, and proved a thoroughly enjoyable outing. About 600 passengers.-left from the wharf on the Waikana, and; ‘though the threat of rain caused a little anxiety jt was never heavy enough to mar the pleasure of tho occasion. The steamer went right out to tho, Hoads, and, making no calls, returned at .10.20 p.m. A feature of the trip was the music that was indulged in all the way. This was led bv Flint’s orchestra and by an amateur orchestra on the lower deck. A piano was specially lent for the occasion by tho Bristol Piano Company, and the excursionists joined with real heartiness in a great variety of popular melodies. The steamer was well lit up with electric light, and all arrangements wore . controlled in business-like fashion by a strong men’s committee. The venture was so keenly enjoyed anil proved _ such a success for all concerned that it has been decided to run such trips regularly during the summer.
