LORD MAYOR’S SHOW

PICTURESQUE PROCESSION IN LONDON. Sir John Baddeley’s year of office as Lord Mayor of’ London commenced on November 9 with the ceremony at the Law Courts and the procession which ie by custom styled the Lord Mayor’s Show. A message in the Christian Science Monitor states that the show as usual was a reflection, of the times, end was the chief item 'of interest for the public at large. The industries of the city and institutions dtesigned to meet the needs at the distressed were well represented, and the military aspect was lees imposing than usual. , ■ The procession, headed by detachments of artillery, marines, air. force, and London infantry, started from the Guildhall for th© Law Courts by way of Cannon street. Ludgate Hill, and Fleet street, passing through that part of the . city which is richeet m association with the far-flung operations of British trad© and finance. The individual exhibits of the worshipful companies of feitroakerel, basket-makers, clockmakers, stationers, and framework knitters attracted much attention, and their prized banners in cloth of gold did much to brighten the procession.

Tho Royal Lifeboat Institution was represented by a lifeboat drq/wn by big draught horses and manned by a Margate crew. The youth of the country provided equally interesting spectacles in a oar fitted up as a ship’s bridge, and in training detachments which marched in procession with field guns, while Girl Guides and Boy Scouts, although a more familiar eight, lent a picturesque touch. _ ... ■ At intervals, in •their State carriages, rode guarded by a 'detachment of the City of London, and the new Lord Mayor, in a great gilded ooaoh dr-awn by six horses, preceded by the dty marshal and the sheriffs and aldermen of the City of London Imperial Cadet Yeomanry, brought up the rear. On arrival at tho Law Courts, Sir John Eoddeley took the customary oaths of allegiance administered by tho King's Remembrancer, being introduced to the court oy Sir Forrest Pulton, the recorder. In the absence of the Lord Chief Justice, Mr Justice Darling presided. On tho conclusion of the ceremony the procession returned to the Guildhall by way of Trafalgar square and the Embankment,
