INTERESTING FIGURES, A summary of arrivals in and departures from New Zealand during the eight months from April 1 to November 30 is given by the Government Statistician in the latest monthly abstract. Details are as follow; ARRIVALS. Immigrants intending permanent residence 1U,122 Permanent residents returning ... 8,702 Visitors— Tourists 3,956 On business Theatrical, entertaining, etc. ; _ ( „ 686 etc. ... ~ _ 43 In transit ~ Total 26,405 DEPARTURES. Permanent residents departing permanently 1,296 Ditto, temporarily 9,216 Temporary residents departing .■*. 9,357 Not stated ._ . 27 Total _ ._ „ ... _ „. 19,895 Of the .'permanent residents who departed permanency, 792 left for Australia, 260 for the United Kingdom, 118 for other British possessions, 57 for the United States, and 68 for other foreign _ countries. During the same eight months 35 Chinese, 92 Hindus, and 15 other non-Europeans arrived as "immigrants intending permanent residence.” Seventeen Chinese, three Hindus, and fivo other non-Europeans who had been classed os permanent residents departed without any intention of returning.
